Welcome to the launch of the new FEI Executive Express! We read your input on how to improve this e-newsletter, and you can see in this inaugural edition how we have updated and improved the look, feel and content of this important member benefit. The streamlined content that links back to where you can dig deeper for information on our website will make this e-newsletter a more efficient and effective tool for you to gather information that is important to your job, including links to our news stories and blog posts on current developments at standard-setting and regulatory organizations and on Capitol Hill, as well as updates on developments in FEI programs and member services.
 
Things are beginning to wind down in Washington, D.C., as legislators race to pass the payroll tax extension as well as vote to fund the government through Sept. 30 of next year. While the House of Representatives is set to adjourn as early as Friday, there is still much work to be done before the books can be closed on 2011.

On the accounting standard-setting front, we want to call to your attention to the Jan. 12 comment deadline on the Financial Accounting Foundation’s proposal to improve standard setting for private companies. Read more below about this important proposal, which is aimed at providing more exceptions to make accounting standards more suitable for private companies.
