James is the state and local tax (SALT) partner for the Phoenix and Las Vegas offices of RSM. He brings over 30 years of experience in the specialized field of state and local taxes. Prior to joining RSM, James worked in public SALT positions with two Big Four firms and large corporate tax departments. He has extensive sales/use and income/franchise tax experience, especially in Arizona, California, Nevada and New Mexico. His breadth of skills includes tax restructuring, managing multi-state tax audit representation and compliance projects for multinational corporations, recovering tax refunds for clients and conducting relocation studies for companies.
James specializes in the adult education, financial services, general manufacturing, healthcare, high technology, mining, retail and wholesale distribution industries. He also has experience in controversy, nexus and unitary studies, multistate return reviews, credits, and tax fiscal impact studies. James is a frequent speaker on state and local tax issues, including speeches before the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), Lorman Education Systems, and the Committee on State Taxation (COST).
