Mr. Brent McDaniel

Background

Using his unique viewpoint and skillsets developed over the past 20 years working around the world as an ethics and compliance officer and consultant and in the US Government, Brent works collaboratively with clients across industries as well as across geographies to solve critical business issues involving ethics and compliance, organizational culture, investigations, and related matters.

Brent is currently a Managing Director in the Dallas office of KPMG’s U.S. Risk & Compliance practice where he specializes in Forensic Advisory Services.

Professional and industry experience

Brent has a broad spectrum of experience in robustly and efficiently handling complex, high profile projects for Boards of Directors, Corporate Executives, and their legal counsel.  These projects have included: the enhancement/remediation of ethics & compliance programs; managing third party risk; investigations and related remediation; compliance and anti-corruption due diligence for third parties and acquisitions; leading the delivery of ethics lines; and the resolution of related issues.  Many of these engagements have also involved the analysis and interpretation of large, complex data sets and the selection and implementation of technology.

Prior to joining KPMG, Brent was a senior leader in the ethics and compliance function of a large, multi-national energy company.  In that role, he routinely worked with the company’s Executives and Board of Directors to assess and enhance its ethics and compliance program globally and remediate related issues.  While in this role, Brent supervised the day to day functioning of all areas of the company’s E&C program and worked with functions and businesses across the company as well as its Ethics Monitor.

Brent previously resided in London for almost four years leading KPMG’s Anti-Bribery and Corruption practice across Europe, Middle East, and Africa.  He was also part of the UK Ministry of Justice working group regarding the UK Bribery Act guidance.

Earlier in his career, Brent was a Special Agent, and later Supervisory Special Agent, for the U.S. Department of the Treasury for almost eight years.  He supervised and conducted investigations of large, complex white collar crime schemes relating to money laundering, corruption, terrorist financing, tax evasion, healthcare fraud, and corporate and investor fraud.

During his career, Brent has worked successfully in countries across the globe spanning five continents for clients in a variety of sectors, including:

Publications and speaking engagements

Brent has provided training around the world regarding fraud, financial crime (including money laundering and sanctions), forensic accounting, corruption, and the financing of international terrorism.  He has also been a regular speaker at conferences and written numerous publications regarding ethics and compliance, bribery and corruption, international financial crime, fraud, and investigations.
