FEI 2019 Summer Internship Program

Dear FEI Members and Sponsors, and University Contacts:

It is my pleasure on behalf of your FEI chapter board to announce the launch of FEI's 2019 Summer Internship Program for members and sponsor firms.  Please read below for specifics, and especially note the dates for submitting your internships, receipt of students interested in those internships, and the tentative date of our March program kicking off the interview process.  If you have questions about the program, please contact our chapter administrator Analisa Trares ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>) or myself.

This 2nd year of FEI's internship program will work much the same as last year's program:  FEI will act as "match maker" between member and sponsor firms who have financial internships they want to fill, and the region's university Finance and Accounting faculty and placement offices to identify potential interns interested in those positions.  We will kick off the interview process with a "Career / Internship Night" event in March.

Approach and Timeline

*    Member and Sponsor companies create internship proposals (1 page form) and submit to Analisa  [by
      February 24]

*    See attached internship form.  Please use this form, so that all internships under the FEI program have a
      common method of documentation.

*    University faculty and placement offices publish the program and solicit resumes of students seeking an
      Accounting / Finance internship  [January 24 - February 24]

*    FEI facilitates an "expression of interest" by students for specific internships via a ranking/voting
      mechanism  [February 25 - March 8]

*    FEI publishes resumes of interested students and their preferred internships to Member and Sponsor
companies with internship proposals  [March 11]

*    FEI hosts a "Career / Internship Night" event to kick off a period for companies to interview internship
      candidates  [March 13, tentatively]

*    Stay tuned for future emails describing event speakers and other specifics

*   Companies with internships reach out to candidates to conduct interviews, make offers, finalize logistical
details  [March / April / May]

*   Summer Internships take place, controlled by companies  [May / June - August / September]

*   FEI solicits input from students and companies to provide feedback for subsequent years  [October]

Anticipated Issues / Questions

1.    Summer only focus, or year-around (co-op)?
       Summer only, at this time.

2.    Involvement of companies' H.R. organizations?
This will be up to each company to determine.  Some Members/Sponsors may be able to propose and
execute internships on his/her own, while others may require significant involvement from their
company's H.R. department.   It will be up to each person/company proposing internships to work
       through that for themselves.

3.    Does FEI control internship scopes, start/end date details, and compensation?
No.  All those details are up to the companies to decide for themselves and to work through with
       candidates.
We recommend compensation be "generous" given the needs of students.  $15 / hour, for instance, will
not hurt your bottom lines too much.

4.    Is the number of participants limited for each university?
No.  We don't anticipate limiting the number of candidates that may apply or express interest.
However, we will ask the schools to set up a process to limit the number of attendees at the Career /
Internship Night event.  Details to be determined.

5.    Will FEI "match" student candidates with company internships?
No.  We will have an "organic" process.  FEI will solicit input to rank or express interest by students in
       specific internships.
Companies will reach out to students to hold interviews and finalize logistical details for the internships.

Please strongly consider supporting this initiative by putting forward one or more internships for your organization.  Your FEI Chapter Board hopes that this program provides a value in facilitating summer internships that you can use to recruit talent, accomplish needed priorities for you and your organization, while giving back to those coming behind us.  Note the February 22nd deadline for submitting any internships back to Analisa.
