Fort Wayne Chapter Happenings – March 2020

Message from the President

Welcome to (almost) Spring 2020! I recently found this quote and it made me laugh:
Let’s enjoy the first days of Spring watching college basketball in a windowless bar.

As we start to wind down our programming for 2019 - 2020, I sincerely hope that you have gotten value from your FEI membership. The Programs Committee and other board members continue to add new programs and re-invent others. We’ve learned that FEI Unity in the Community is much better attended if it’s hosted at a Partner or member site. On that note, please watch for information on the March 26 Unity event, hosted by Hylant at their office. Additionally, we continue to offer various types of meeting formats - keynote speakers, professional development and career development sessions focused on soft skills, plus social events - at various times of the day in an effort to work into your schedule. Pick what works for you and attend when you can. Our next event will be our annual tour, hosted by Fort Wayne Metals this year, on March 10 - click here reserve your place today

I am pleased to announce that our Chapter has grown by 16 members this year. It’s been good to see many of you at events and I look forward to welcoming the rest of you over the next few months. To all seasoned members, I encourage you take a moment at one of our upcoming meetings to introduce yourself and personally welcome these individuals to the FEI Fort Wayne ‘family’.

We have had some great events to kick-off the second half. Thanks to our “downtown panel” - Donovan Coley, Nancy Townsend, TK Herman and Rich Bienz - and moderator, Mike Cahill for an interesting discussion on lessons learned in being part of downtown development. In addition, Jim Wilcox shared his experience in organizational excellence, Barry Schrock helped us “battle our weapons of mass distraction” and our own John Court opened our eyes to employee benefits appealing to multi-generational workforce.

FEI’s Financial Leadership Summit is quickly approaching, May 17-19 in Chicago, IL. This conference is very well done with knowledgeable and amazing speakers. We have a group from Fort Wayne attending and we would love to have you join us. As always, FEI has reserved a block of rooms at The Palmer House at a rate of $309/night. This reduced rate is available until April 22, 2020 or until the room block sells out. FEI staff strongly recommends reservations be made early to ensure you secure a room at the reduced room rate. There are several city-wide events taking place during Summit so please book your room before it’s too late

Lastly, we are looking for new members on Committees next year. If you have any interest in helping to lead the Chapter, please reach out to any Board member. We need new ideas and would welcome your input and help.
