Board Seats for CFOs: Positioning Yourself for Corporate Board Service

Many finance executives are accustomed to making presentations to boards of directors. Most of them likely aspire to be on the other side of the table, in a board seat. February’s panel, presented by the Private Directors Association, will discuss the journey to a board position, featuring insights from two CFOs who’ve mastered the process: Hiram Cox of SMS Holdings, and Tom Harrington of The Bakery Companies. Moderator Marc Fortune, a veteran board member, will offer some background on private company boardship and guide the two panelists as they share their experiences of becoming strong board candidates; the challenges and rewards in the role; and the value of recruiting outside, independent people to serve on the boards of closely held companies.
