PD Session (5:00-6:00 PM) with Geffen Mesher
Topic: Opportunity Zones
1.0 CPE Credit in Taxes

A provision in the 2017 tax overhaul has led to the creation of more than 8,700 “opportunity zones” across the country, including the entire downtown area of Portland. The new program allows investors to defer and reduce taxes on capital gains they’ve already earned, if they reinvest in these zones. Take advantage of this opportunity to find out the details of opportunity zones and the potential market impacts they could bring.

Dinner Session (7:00-8:00 PM) with Nicole Thibodeau, CPA, PhD
Topic: Are Your Costs Making Money?
1.0 CPE Credit in Accounting

Do you really know how your costs move with volume, how your profitability and cash flows change as volume and mix of sales change, if you should make or buy components, hire or outsource talent, increase or decrease prices? Whether you work in manufacturing, service, distribution, healthcare or another industry with heavy fixed costs, capacity, cash, and pricing are key levers that can easily make  or break  your  company. This is even more true in today’s highly dynamic, competitive and global economy.  Yet, traditional cost accounting, designed for mass manufacturing, and traditional financial reporting often provide misleading or incomplete information that can  lead  to  costly  decisions. See the other side of accounting, one that truly is revealing and drives profitable decisions.  See how variance analysis, true costing and dynamic reporting can truly improve your ability  to  make informed,  confident  and  profitable decisions.  In this 50-minute interactive talk, I will discuss five case studies involving leadership of closely held businesses of different industries where accounting information originally misinformed and when transformed, yielded value-increasing decisions and results.
