VP Finance, The Lighthouse for the Blind

The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. (The Lighthouse) seeks a highly motivated and experienced Vice President of Finance (VP Finance) to join its Strategic Leadership team and lead and manage the Finance department. This is the most senior financial position at The Lighthouse. 

The Lighthouse is celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2018. The mission of empowerment by creating diverse, sustainable, and meaningful employment opportunities continues to be implemented in continued growth of jobs and geographic expansion. There are presently three manufacturing locations for aerospace and defense products and seven retail stores on military bases in the western US. Annual revenues are approximately $80 million with nearly 500 employees. 
 
Reporting to and partnering with the Chief Executive Officer and overseeing a department of 13, The VP Finance will work collaboratively across departments to ensure that The Lighthouse has the infrastructure, policies and procedures, systems, and people in place to accommodate continued growth. The VP Finance will also be a vital member of a dynamic, tenured Strategic Leadership Team that sets the strategy and vision for The Lighthouse.  

The Vice President of Finance will join The Lighthouse during a period of growth that includes expansion to its recently opened South Carolina location. The new VP Finance will provide the strategic direction and guidance for the financial components of its organization-wide strategy, programs, and policies, enabling employees and leadership to maintain the quality of both our people-centered programs and our products.

- Completing and Implementing a Five Year Strategic Plan 
- Organizational Effectiveness  
- Finance Department Leadership  
 
The Lighthouse for the Blind seeks a strategic, energetic financial leader and patient change agent that can help the organization successfully embark on its next 100 years. The ideal candidate will possess a broad tool box and have deep experience leading every aspect of financial strategy across a dynamic organization.  
 
The ideal candidate will be a strong, collaborative leader who can effectively partner with the leadership team to scale safe, high quality manufacturing in an environment where most of the employees are blind. She or he will have experience leading the people side of strategic plans and making leaders, departments, and systems stronger as they grow a business without losing focus on the mission. The ideal candidate is a person willing to invest a combination of passion, business acumen, and entrepreneurial spirit  
 
The VP Finance will be a transparent, strong communicator who can tell hard truths with compassion, while still interacting with all team members with humility. She or he will lead a department that is timely, responsive, and flexible in meeting organizational needs and set reasonable expectations with colleagues and staff. The ideal candidate will have exceptional management skills and demonstrated experience leading a department of five or more that is similar in complexity.  
 
The ideal candidate is perceptive, approachable and comfortable walking on a manufacturing floor, yet has the gravitas to take her or his place at the Strategic Leadership Team table.  
 
Insightful, patient, yet innovative, the VP Finance will be a vital member of the Strategic Leadership Team, instinctively knowing the right questions to ask and when to lean in with support at critical moments. Candidates must be masterful in communicating strategic vision and empowering her or his peers with the tools needed to achieve corporate goals.  
 
Exceptional knowledge of financial matters and best practices, including GAAP; external requirements (financial reporting, banking, risk management, taxes, savings plans); ERP systems among others will be foundational. 
 
Success in working with an experienced Board of Trustees, including being the main point of contact for three Committees:  Finance, Audit and Investments; and preparing insightful presentations to the Board. 
 
Up to 30% travel should be anticipated. 

Candidates should have a Bachelors’ degree, a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in Finance and Accounting, and a proven record of effective leadership, preferably in a manufacturing environment. A Masters’ Degree and/or professional certification is preferred. Successful candidates will bring strong verbal and written communication skills; additional spoken language, American Sign Language, or braille skills are a plus.  Experience in a not for profit organization would also be valued.
