Mr. John D Penn

John Penn is the Firmwide Chair of the Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice.  Licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas in 1982 and the Supreme Court, Appellate Division of New York in 2010, he has been an active bankruptcy and insolvency practitioner for over 35 years. 
 
John served as the President of the American Bankruptcy Institute during 2005 – 2006 when BAPCPA became effective and later served its Chairman.  He also is a former Chairman and Past President of the American Board of Certification, the only organization providing board certification of attorneys in business bankruptcy, consumer bankruptcy and creditors’ rights law throughout the United States. 
 
John has been Board Certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by both the American Board of Certification and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for almost 30 years.  Mr.  Penn has written extensively on bankruptcy and reorganization topics.  His work has been published in the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review, the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal and a number of other publications. 
 
Mr. Penn has been active in a number of charitable endeavors, including the Longhorn Council Boy Scouts of America and Tarrant County Chapter of March of Dimes.  He served on the National Eagle Scout Association Committee of the Longhorn Council, a Life Member of NESA and the proud father of two Eagle Scouts.
 
In March of this year, John completed his 6th marathon (one of which was an ultra marathon).
