My Deloitte Story

I am a “Deloitte-lifer” - I joined Deloitte back in January 1996, and during my 25-year tenure was fortunate to serve in a variety of leadership roles across various businesses and channels.

I spent my first 10 years at Deloitte in our Human Capital Consulting practice, focusing on multiple HR-related disciplines for our clients including corporate learning strategies, executive alignment, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications. I also worked in Deloitte’s U.S Strategy organization, serving as the senior program manager accountable for elements of the development and rollout of the Deloitte US firm’s strategy.

In 2008, I transitioned into Deloitte’s Talent organization, where I held leadership roles such as Talent’s Strategy & Communications leader, and national managing director of Deloitte’s Inclusion & Engagement efforts. In these capacities, I provided strategic direction to national programming to increase levels of employee engagement and improve the talent experience of our professionals. Strategic initiatives included efforts aligned around diversity & inclusion, development, well-being, and supporting the communities in which we live and serve.

During my tenure in Talent, I regularly spoke on a variety of talent-related topics to numerous clients and forums, including The Great Places to Work Institute’s national conference, and the US Department of Labor around Deloitte’s nationally recognized Paid Family Leave program. Always passionate about the growth and development of our professionals, I took great pride in regularly teaching and serving as program dean for numerous development programs at Deloitte University (see above).

In October 2020, I opted to retire early from Deloitte, enabling me to spend more personal time with my wife Maggie - we are true “sandwich generation” adults who are caring for aging parents, while at the same time seeing our children off to college. I am also actively involved in our community; I founded the Community Board of the local Cancer Support Center, serve as our local Park District Board president, and am one of the directors of the annual Hidden Gem Half marathon, recently named by the Chicago Area Runners Association as its 2022 Race of the Year.

A year into retirement, I realized that while I didn’t miss the work, I certainly missed the classroom. I grew up in a world where both of my parents were teachers, my wife is a teacher, and my degree is in education.  Nothing in my 25 years at Deloitte gave me greater joy and satisfaction than the time I spent teaching our professionals at Deloitte University, and for the last year and a half I have had the opportunity to periodically come back to speak and teach at Deloitte on a range of topics I am passionate about. It is an honor and privilege to be a facilitator at Deloitte in retirement, and give back to an organization that has done so much for me and my family.
