EXPERIENCE
Avi Goodman has over 20 years of experience and is currently a Managing Director in BDO’s Transaction Advisory Services Tax Practice where he advises strategic and private equity clients throughout the M&A process. His primary focus is on tax due diligence, structuring and modeling. Avi’s specialty areas include devising tax strategies for corporate and LLC acquisitions, dispositions, spin-offs, joint ventures, financing, reorganizations and restructurings. Avi has authored several articles on M&A tax matters, and has been a presenter at numerous conferences. He formerly served as the Chairman of the Taxation of M&A Committee of the NYSSCPA.
Prior to joining BDO, Avi spent several years with the Transaction Advisory Services, Transaction Tax Practice at Ernst & Young. His transaction experience spans a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, telecom, environmental consulting, healthcare and renewable energy. Prior to Ernst & Young, Avi worked at Steel Partners, an activist hedge fund, where he served as a Vice President on the investment team. At Steel Partners, Avi focused on evaluating and recommending investment opportunities, LBO and M&A modeling, and advising Boards of Directors on corporate transactions, such as acquisitions, divestitures and capital raising. He also worked closely with portfolio company management teams on bankruptcy, restructuring, litigation, and other matters. Additionally, he was deeply involved in tax structuring and planning strategies within portfolio companies focusing on creating or unlocking value associated with various tax attributes, such as net operating losses.
