Sam Smith is Managing Director and Senior Consultant with the Prouty Project specializing in business and people strategy.

For two decades, Sam has worked with executives to shift organizational mindsets that drive effective change, create adaptive advantage, and accelerate meaningful growth. As a speaker, adviser and facilitator, organizations engage Sam for strategic planning, leadership & team development, and executive coaching. His purpose is simple: Impact & Elevate by engaging, encouraging and equipping leaders to STRETCH beyond themselves and what is “known” to achieve what is seemingly unimaginable.

Following his experience as a Division 1 gymnast at Michigan State University, Sam returned to Minneapolis, MN where he gained experience working in organizations ranging from startup to Fortune 20. Sam has leveraged and expanded his expertise over the years to serve leaders, teams and organizations in their efforts to creatively achieve bigger goals, bolder strategies and better collaboration.

Sam joined The Prouty Project from UnitedHealth Group where he led performance consulting initiatives in Leadership Development, Team Performance Improvement and Innovation through Human Centered Design. Since 2014, Sam has been a leader in our Strategic Planning Practice working with CEOs and Executive Teams spanning the entire range of industries (professional services, manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, distribution, telecommunications, healthcare, construction, and more) and company sizes and ownership structure (privately held, partnerships, private equity backed and publicly traded).

Sam is married to his wife Maureen, has 5 children ages 18-29 (plus one son-in-law, two granddaughters and one grandson) and lives by his two favorite questions and statements: “What if?”-“Why not?”-“We can!”-“Let’s go!”
