Mr. Tony Baer

Tony Baer leads Ovum’s big data research area, focusing on how big data must become a first-class citizen in the data center, IT
organization, and the business. As a weekly contributor to ZDNet’s Big on Data blog, he amplifies Ovum's big data research
insights to global audiences.

Having tracked the emergence of BI and data warehousing back in the 1990s, Tony sees similar parallels emerging in the world of
big data today.

Before joining Ovum, he was an independent IT analyst, whose company OnStrategies delivered software development and
integration services to vendors with technology and market positioning assessments. He also led Computerwire’s CIO Agenda and
Computer Finance end-user best practices research services.

His career began as a journalist, and he co-authored some of the earliest books on the Java and .NET frameworks. He has
spoken at industry events covering data management, big data analytics, and data governance.
