Albert J Layne

Immediately prior to joining GT, Layne served as a Partner for nine years with Alvarez & Marsal.  While there, Mr. Albert led and coordinated all of A&M's tax services related to financial services. During the last six years of his time with A&M, he was materially involved in the tax aspects of the Lehman Brothers Chapter 11 bankruptcy. He also consulted with large financial institutions on significant tax matters, regulatory matters (including Dodd Frank and FATCA compliance) and performance improvement. He worked closely with REITs (public and private) and served as lead tax partner on many PE fund engagements. He served as quality control in technical matters related to the family office practice and worked closely with many asset managers.

At Grant Thornton, Layne continues to devote his time and energy to the financial services industry focusing his practice primarily on investment asset managers and the funds they advise. Layne currently represents hedge funds, private equity, REITs, broker/dealers, virtual traders, other alternative investments and their asset managers. He speaks frequently on partnership tax issues that affect asset managers and the funds they advise.

In addition to his experience as a tax consultant, Mr. Albert was also VP of Tax for two public companies, practiced as a tax attorney and held other tax positions in industry.
