Renae McDermott

In November 2016, Renae M. McDermott was appointed Special Agent in Charge of the Knoxville Field Office.  Ms. McDermott has served as the Special Assistant to the Director since July 2015.  Previously, Ms. McDermott served as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge in the Albuquerque Division’s Criminal and Administrative Branch since December 2013.

Ms. McDermott entered on duty with the FBI in 1989 as a Police Officer, and then served as a Physical Science Technician in the Firearms and Tool Marks Unit.  Following graduation from New Agent Training in 1994, she was assigned to the Miami Division where she worked Violent Crimes and Major Offenders matters and as an SA Airport Liaison.

In 2005, Ms. McDermott was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent in the Counterterrorism Division, Iraq Unit at FBI Headquarters.  In 2007, she transferred to the Dallas Division as the Criminal Enterprise Supervisor.  Upon her return to FBI Headquarters in 2009, she established the Onboarding New Employees Program and served as the Unit Chief of the Performance Appraisal Unit in the Human Resources Division.

Ms. McDermott earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
