Nick Boegel

Nick has over 23 years of tax consulting experience. He has reviewed, researched, and documented solutions for complex state and local tax issues in the areas of income and franchise, sales and use, payroll and employment, and property taxes and unclaimed property. He has experience in identifying and serving multi-state client needs and performing creative tax and unclaimed property reviews to quantify potential savings via process improvements and prospective corporate restructuring projects. As the firm's Midwest Unclaimed Property Practice Leader, Nick has established professional relationships with many of the state unclaimed property administrators in handling client matters and has successfully negotiated voluntary disclosure agreements on behalf of clients and provided audit representation services. He has managed and successfully filed over 50 VDAs with Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Additionally, he has assisted clients in many other states in his VDA and audit defense representation.

Nick's unique accounting and legal background allows him to assist clients and their legal counsel identify and pursue both accounting and legal positions to mitigate audit exposures. He routinely reduces his clients' exposures through modification of statistical sampling methods, removal of distortive transactions, base period alignment, modeling process that matches available and researchable records standards, etc. He assists clients and legal counsel on reclassifying potential property types determined to be escheatable on audit to non-escheatable property types or property waived for audit review, Nick has significant escheat planning experience. Prior to joining the firm, Nick worked with Arthur Andersen, PriceWaterCoopers and Reinhart Consulting.
