Pete Cordero

Pedro “Pete” Cordero is the Founder/Principal of Hacking The Cyber Threat LLC which specializes in providing cybersecurity leadership consulting services to executives.

 

Pete has served as a cybersecurity executive in both the FBI and the private sector since 2010. He has extensive cybersecurity executive experience conducting FBI cybersecurity intrusion investigations, providing FBI cybersecurity leadership training, and serving large organizations in providing cybersecurity consulting services and cybersecurity leadership training.

 

Since retiring from the FBI in 2018. Pete has led board of director, audit committee, C-Suite, CIO, CISO, and Internal Audit cybersecurity insight sessions on cybersecurity risk management for large organizations representing most business sectors. Pete also provided clients with cybersecurity services (technical, advisory, and incident response), cybersecurity training to internal audit teams, and conducted reviews of cybersecurity incidents and cybersecurity forensic investigations.

 

Prior to retiring from the FBI, Pete served as the FBI National Academy Cybersecurity Leadership Instructor, training law enforcement executives from around the world on how to address the cyber threat at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels.

 

Pete’s operational cyber leadership experience includes service as the Assistant Section Chief for the FBI Cyber Division’s Cyber Criminal Section, Cyber Division National Security Section and Cyber Division Operational Support Section. He also served as Deputy Director of the FBI National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, which coordinates cyber information sharing across the intelligence community and with federal partners.

 

Pete completed a joint-duty posting to the CIA Counterterrorism Center, led Joint Terrorism Task Force and Public Corruption/Civil Rights Squads in the field, served in the FBIHQ Usama Bin Laden Unit before, during, and after the September 11, 2001, attacks, served as the FBI Director’s counterterrorism briefer, and was a field SWAT Operator and Special Agent Bomb Technician.  He is the recipient of the 2003 Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service and 2012 Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service.

 

Pete is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) holds multiple SANS Global Information Assurance Certifications (GIAC) certifications including Cloud Penetration Testing (GCPN), Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking (GPEN); Web App Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking (GWAPT); Mobile Device Security and Ethical Hacking (GMOB); Advanced Network Forensics: Threat Hunting, Analysis, and Incident Response (GNFA); Hacker Tools, Techniques, Exploits, and Incident Handling (GCIH); and Active Defense and Incident Response for Industrial Control Systems (GRID), and the AICPA SOC for Cybersecurity Certificate for Cybersecurity Attestation Examinations. Pete also holds certifications from CERT Building An Insider Threat Program and the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) CERT Certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight.
