CGRC Update: December 2014

On March 19 and 20, as part of a new initiative in collaboration, FEI’s Committee on GRC (CGRC) and the Committee on Finance and IT (CFIT), co-located their meeting. The meeting was hosted by Loren Mahon, VP, Finance Systems, Oracle, at Oracle’s headquarters in Redwood Shores, California. The theme of the meeting was “The Digitization of GRC.”  Presentations included:“COSO 2013 Update and COSO ERM,” by Frank Martens, Director, PwC;“Network IT Security,” by Patrick Hynes, Executive Director of EY’s Advanced Security Center;“Developing Business Talent,” by Drew Starbird, Dean of the Business School at Santa Clara University; and“M&A at Oracle,” by Margaret Coyle, VP Corporate Development, Oracle.In addition, Oracle professionals discussed the current state of GRC applications, and the future of ERP and GRC applications.CGRC has issued a “Call for Participation” for FEI Members experienced with current or recent senior level experience in corporate governance, risk and/or financial compliance.The committee has three subcommittee, whose areas of focus are:Blue SkyBoards and Executive CommitteesExternal Stakeholders / Thought Leadership / Advocacy and Policy Influencing rolesThe new Chair of CGRC is Jim Schulien effective for the fiscal 2015 year. A Member for over five years, Jim is the head of Internal Audit for UTi Worldwide Inc., an international supply chain services and solutions company. As the Chief Audit Executive at UTi he leads the company’s internal audit risk assessment activities, audit plan development and execution. Prior to his Chief Audit Executive roles, Schulien was a Partner in KPMG’s Advisory Services Practice.Dr. Sri Ramamoorti will remain as Vice Chair for the Committee. Dr. Sri also was appointed to the Standing Advisory Group (SAG) of the PCAOB for the 2014–2016 term.
