Helping Up Mission (HUM) is one of Baltimore’s oldest and largest non-profit 501(c)3 institutions, dedicated to serving the poor and homeless since 1885. HUM is privately funded by thousands of individuals, churches, community organizations, corporations and foundations that make over 40,000 contributions annually to support a $9M+ annual budget.
The flagship program of Helping Up Mission, the Spiritual Recovery Program (SPR) integrates the latest scientific understanding of addiction treatment with intense spiritual development. For one full year, participants live at the Mission in a 12-Step therapeutic community. They are immersed in a culture of healing and wellness that meets their needs through four timed phases: Seeds of Hope, Alpha, Omega, and Life Prep:
Total SRP enrollments July 1, 2015 – February 12, 2018: 1,519
- Completed Seed phase: 66.69%
- Completed Alpha phase: 45.75%
- Completed Omega Phase: 32.39 %
- Completed SRP/1 year program sober: 19.82%
While currently providing afternoon shelter and care for 60 women experiencing homelessness each day, HUM recently launched “Inspiring Hope”, their capital campaign to open a Women’s and Children’s Center serving over 200 women daily in residential long-term recovery and up to 50 accompanying children. Additionally, Helping Up is now serving a small number of men and women in a Next Steps program after diversion from a local emergency room, so that they may stabilize and be referred to recovery services.
Helping Up Mission provides hope to people experiencing homelessness, poverty or addiction by meeting their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.
