What is your most rewarding accomplishment as a finance executive?
Having spent all but the last 3 years of my career as a tax advisor in public accounting, my career as a financial executive is still in its infancy. With that said, my most rewarding accomplishment has been simply being able to adequately perform in my role. Particularly since my role encompasses numerous duties and responsibilities with which I had no prior experience.
How did you discover your passion for finance?
When I was in undergrad, I was a marketing major. I needed to take Principles of Accounting I & II for general business education requirements. What was a challenging class for many came naturally to me and I really enjoyed it.
What is one piece of information you wish someone had told you when you first started your finance career?
That problems in textbooks are written to have an answer. Problems in practice rarely have one specific solution.
What job would you pursue if you weren’t in finance?
I’ve always liked working with people so would either pursue sales or something in hospitality.
What are some of your personal hobbies outside of finance?
I love doing anything outdoors. Kayaking, fishing, camping, playing golf, etc. I’ve recently gotten a lot more into trout fishing than I have in past years and I’m working with GolfTec to try to find my swing again.
