In each newsletter, our Chapter will feature a member as our “Member Spotlight.” This month, we felt it appropriate to highlight past President and devoted FEI Baltimore member Carl Kampel, who passed away in December of last year.

Carl joined FEI Baltimore in October of 1995, and served in many important roles during his more than 20-year membership. Most notably, he served as President during the 2005 – 2006 Program Year and served on our board for nearly 15 years. During his tenure, he played an important role in managing the chapter’s sponsorship program, which served as the foundation for our current chapter sponsorship.

Carl had more than 30 years of experience in the audit and accounting profession, most recently serving as the Director of Professional Standards for Ellin & Tucker. During his 20-year tenure at Ellin & Tucker, Carl held significant role in many of the firm’s national and international client engagements. He was a member of the firm’s audit, accounting and consulting department. And was also the director of professional standards – an advisory role that ensures all aspects of client accounting, regardless of complexity, are conducted with the highest level of service and that all statements and findings are properly and accurately reported.

Carl’s dedication to the advancement and development of the accounting profession led him to serve in an executive or advisory capacity on the boards and committees of numerous accounting related associations. In addition to his contributions to FEI, he was also an active member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and The Financial Executives Networking Group, Inc. (FENG)

His career is one to emulate, giving of himself both within his given role, as well as to the finance and accounting industry as a whole. Carl will be deeply missed by our membership and board.
