January 2022 Member Spotlight - Ken Rasmussen

Member Spotlight: Ken Rasmussen

Kenneth (Ken) Rasmussen joined Financial Executives International (FEI) in 1985 as a member of the Michiana Chapter in northern Indiana. With more than 35 years of membership in our organization, we believe Ken is worthy of recognition for his incredible career and commitment to the organization.

Career and Professional Background

Ken Rasmussen recently retired from employment with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, after serving in various financial leadership roles for more than 40 years.

He began his service to the church as Chief Accountant for Andrews University, which is one of the flagship educational institutions of the Church located in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He later served as the Treasurer of the same institution and was involved in the development and direction of its trust and planned giving program. This involvement led to Ken being called to serve the Church by administering the accounting, tax and investments of revocable trusts, annuities and unit trusts for a four-state territory headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

From this assignment, Ken joined the World Headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church as the Associate Investment Manager and served with distinction in this capacity for 25 years. As part of the team responsible for charting a course of prudent investment for the Church and its family of institutions, he was instrumental in moving the Church from self-custody of securities to an external custodian; realigning fund investments to allow for better asset allocation by investors; enhancing reporting capabilities for use and decision making by investors; and growing the assets under management to a level of industry significance.

Educational Background

Ken graduated from Andrews University with degrees in accounting and theology. After passing the CPA exam and obtaining the requisite practical experience, he was granted a license to practice public accounting in the state of Michigan.

FEI Chapter Involvement

Ken joined Financial Executives International (FEI) in 1985 as a member of the Michiana Chapter. He later transferred to the Fort Worth Chapter when his role at the Seventh-day Adventist Church moved him to Dallas, Texas. Ken is a current member of the Baltimore Chapter of FEI

“Ken has a dry but great sense of humor and keeps the programming events on track ensuring a diverse and broad selection that appeal to all,” said Joe Wendel, Chair of the Baltimore Chapter’s Programs Committee.

Ken was kind enough to put our chapter in touch with Paul H. Douglas, CFO and Treasurer, Seventh Day Adventist Church World Headquarters, who shared about the church’s mission and financial management and oversight during a chapter webinar in December 2021.

The FEI Baltimore Board would like to send a sincere thank you to Ken for his years of commitment to our organization, both locally and across the nation.
