In 1976, three visionaries channeled their expertise in coaching and love of the game of Volleyball into founding Sports Imports in Hilliard, Ohio, an equipment company dedicated to providing a product of superior quality and dependability.  This family owned business, led by a second-generation, woman-owner, has honored that dream and together with an extraordinary staff, succeeded in developing the company into the premier provider of volleyball pole, pad, and net systems in North America.  

Our products are the standard for superior quality and service in our industry and our equipment is demanded at virtually every level of volleyball competition and championship throughout the world. Our products are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, sold and distributed primarily in North and South America to Colleges, High Schools, Middle Schools, and Clubs who demand to play on the best equipment available.  

Sports Imports is the exclusive distributor of Senoh products in North America, and we have exclusive sponsorship licenses with all the major organizations overseeing volleyball competition including: National Collegiate Athletic Association, American Volleyball Coaches Association, National Federation of State High School Associations, and USA Volleyball.

Position Qualifications

We are seeking a seasoned Chief Financial Officer to replace the current CFO. who is retiring after 25 successful years in the role.  The ideal candidate will be a “hands-on” leader who will relish having sole responsibility and accountability over the entire financial function of the company.  The position requires a high level of financial competency with proven experience as a technically competent and creative financial executive, who will be a key member of our Leadership Team.    

The CFO will have sole responsibility for directing the fiscal functions of the company in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America. The ideal CFO at Sports Imports is an organized problem-solver, analytical, and detail oriented. Comfortable in a casual and relationship-driven environment, this family-oriented and focused motivator will have a good sense of humor and the highest level of ethical conduct.

Required Experience and Education:

•    Bachelor’s degree with a focus on accounting and / or finance; 5+ years of primary department or company financial management responsibility, or equivalent combination of education and experience

•    Exposure to or oversight for payroll, employee benefits, tax, and standard governmental reporting 

Preferred Education and Experience:

•    Additional relevant degree(s) or certification(s) or relevant experience reflecting knowledge in accounting and finance and a continuing dedication to the financial profession

•    Experience as a key member of a Leadership Team by participating in tactical and strategic decisions affecting the company

Technical Requirements:

•    Advanced Quickbooks experience (we are currently using the Enterprise Version, Level 15).

•    On-line banking (ACH / Wire)

Essential Functions of the Position:

•    Perform basic accounting functions:

•   Financial Statements (make journal entries, monthly statements generation (Income, Balance Sheet, Sales, Sales Commission, Accounts Receivable, Inventory)

•    Cash Flow (reconcile bank accounts, weekly cash flow, line of credit payment as needed)

•    Accounts Receivable - monthly

•    Accounts Payable – verification of services received and enter invoices into Quickbooks, reporting (1099 at Year-end, Social Security, 1096, etc.)

•    Expense Reports (enter charges, reconcile credit card accounts)

•    Sales tax filing

•    Fixed Assets – maintain listing, run monthly depreciation report, prepare  periodic Purchase/Disposal/Acquisition reports

•    Payroll – manage employee payment and reporting process; 401(k) withholding, insurance

•    Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the company’s fiscal function and performance.

•    Participate in the development of the company’s plans and programs as a strategic partner.

•    Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning and introduction of new programs and strategies.

•    Enhance and / or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company.

•    Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the company.

•    Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate policies, procedures, reporting, and communication to enhance cash position.

•    Provide timely and accurate execution of payroll, health benefits, and any governmental reporting requirements.
