Chief Financial Officer

POSITION SUMMARY
The CFO has the primary responsibility of planning, managing and executing the company’s financial activities including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, management of financial risks, record-keeping, negotiating and financial reporting. The CFO also directs the HR and IT functions.
 
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
 
Planning and Analysis
  • Partner with the CEO in formulating the company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Develop and implement financial and tax strategies.
  • Drive the development and management of the operating budget.
  • Develop and monitor performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction.
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team.
  • Lead  the accounting, human resources, and information technology departments.
  • Support the inventory management function.
  • Oversee the financial operations of Mesa, WG and affiliated companies.
  • Oversee the company’s transaction processing systems.
  • Implement operational best practices.
  • Coach and develop staff to achieve goals.
  • Oversee employee benefit plan design, with emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package that aids in recruiting and retention.
  • Train and support accounting staff to perform month-end closing and other routine tasks.

Transactions
  • Ensure accurate product costing and adequate pricing.
  • Approve credit terms for all customers over $25,000.
  • Approve all purchase orders over $10,000.
  • Signatory for vendor/supplier checks
  • Oversee use and reporting of Company credit cards.
  • Approve or initiate international banking letters of credit, wire transfers.
  • Execute strategic contracts, with input from key team members.

Financial and Analysis
  • Oversee preparation, review and issuance of financial information in a timely manner.
  • Manage the processes for financial forecasting and budgets.
  • Oversee the development of periodic financial reports for functional departments.
  • Provide financial analysis of the business and functional areas, determine trends and identify opportunities for improvement and optimal decision making.
  • Review and approve all tax returns.
  • Monitor and report compliance with debt covenants

Human Resources and IT
  • Align HR strategy with business strategy.
  • Champion company values to ensure behavior and decision-making supports company culture.
  • Responsible  for human capital decisions and overseeing HR staff who perform day to day people operations, compliance, benefits  and payroll.
  • Identify key metrics to plan and measure the success of HR and IT initiatives.
  • Develop, implement and manage a defined and documented strategic technology plan,  which includes hardware management and replacement, cyber-security, software programs, employee system access.

Risk Management
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the Company’s risk profile.
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Report risk issues to the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.

Third Parties
  • Maintain relationships with banks and insurance providers.
  • Maintain relationships with outside CPA firm and staff.
  • Represent the company with investment bankers.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
 
EXPERIENCE
Fifteen or more years’ relevant experience in progressively responsible positions required. Experience in the durable goods manufacturing industry preferred. Experience in databases and data analysis required.
