WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

As the CFO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial success and sustainability of the organization. You will have the opportunity to lead and optimize financial strategies that directly impact the firm’s growth, profitability, and overall operational efficiency. Your expertise will drive the firm’s financial decision-making and help guide Katz Teller towards a successful future, ensuring their commitment to delivering top-notch legal services. You will collaborate with Partners, Associates, and professional staff to align financial strategies with the firm’s objectives.

As part of the leadership team it is expected that you will be responsible for oversight of the administration functions within Katz (HR, IT, Marketing, etc.) Specific responsibilities of this role include:

Financial Strategy: Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the firm’s long-term goals, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.

  • Direct and maintain responsibility for the financial functions of the firm, acting as a key strategic business advisor.
  • Assist in the implementation of financial and business tactics that further the firm’s strategic plan, providing support and input to the President/CEO, Compensation Committee, and the Board.
  • Monitor trends and perform benchmarking within the legal industry. Provide input, recommendations, and insights to key stakeholders.

Financial Management: Oversee accounting, financial reporting, and billing functions, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee and participate in cash management, budgeting, billing, collections, vendor payments, payroll, internal and external audits, and retirement plan issues.
  • Prepare and distribute firm financial reports, including productivity and financial statements. Evaluate the effectiveness of the report package and recommend changes as needed.
  • Participate in various firm committees, including Finance, Compensation, and Risk Management.
  • Oversee all expenses recorded from partners, associates, and staff. Ensure they are coded and tracked appropriately and consistently across the firm
  • Oversee all firm expenses such as benefits, insurance, external contracts with vendors, etc.

Financial Analysis: Provide insightful financial analysis to support decision-making, identify cost-saving opportunities to enhance profitability.

  • Perform timely and complex financial analyses to provide input on the firm’s business transactions and strategic initiatives.
  • Create profitability and cost-benefit analysis reports.
  • Provide information needed for the annual partner compensation process, bringing on new partners, and packages for retiring partners.

Cash Flow Management: Optimize cash flow and liquidity management, ensuring adequate funds for day-to-day operations and strategic investments.

  • Manage the firm’s billing functions (e.g., monitoring work in process, creating systems to ensure that completed work gets billed timely, etc.).
  • Develop and monitor cash models to assist with decision making.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks while safeguarding the firm’s assets and investments.

  • Evaluate, implement, and support the effectiveness of internal financial controls.

Compliance: Ensure the firm’s financial operations comply with industry-specific regulations and standards.

  • Maintain and improve the integrity of the firm’s financial practices, and oversee relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and CPAs.
  • Assist with tax preparation as needed.

Overall Firm Administration: Provide leadership and day-to-day management of the finance and accounting staff, human resources, technology, marketing, and operations staff.

  • Cultivate a healthy, positive culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Maintain productive relationships with the CPA firm and other outside advisors.

IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience as a CFO or in a senior finance role with a law firm or professional services organization (CPA firm, financial services, consulting, technology, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of financial management, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with legal industry financial regulations and standards a plus
  • Experience with M&A due diligence and integration a plus

The CFO will work out of the Katz Teller offices in downtown Cincinnati. They will receive a competitive salary and a full benefits package. Relocation assistance will be provided as necessary.
