CT/Westchester Chapter September 13th Panel Discussion: Over Promised - Pensions are Wreaking Havoc

Pension plans have become increasingly underfunded for over a decade and the promised benefits (& associated liabilities) are wreaking havoc with the finances of many government entities and corporations that sponsor these pensions. We have witnessed the affect on municipalities like Detroit and several entities in Rhode Island. And the corresponding impact on the many stakeholders from plan participants, to tax payers, and to politicians. The City of Hartford is on the brink of bankruptcy, pushed there with a shrinking tax base and huge liabilities even without considering pensions. States are facing similar pressures - Illinois, New Jersey, and Kentucky to name a few. What can be done about it? What are some of the fixes that will be necessary to meet the promises to the pensioners and yet enable a sound financial future?

Our panel will discuss some of the solutions that have been utilized to restore order and what may be in store for Hartford (& Connecticut).
