HOW CONNECTICUT CAN ESCAPE ITS

"PERMANENT FISCAL CRISIS"

Suzanne Bates,

Director of Policy and Legislative Outreach,

Yankee Institute for Public Policy

Please plan to join us on Wednesday, April 20th, for a discussion on How Connecticut Can Escape Its “Permanent Fiscal Crisis” led by Suzanne Bates of the Yankee Institute for Public Policy, based in Hartford, CT.

Ms. Bates, Director of Policy and Legislative Outreach, holds a leadership position at the Yankee Institute which develops and advances free-market, limited-government solutions in Connecticut.  As one of America’s oldest state-based think tanks, Yankee Institute is a leading advocate for smart, limited government, fairness for taxpayers and an open road to opportunity.  Ms. Bates is well versed in fiscal policy including taxes, education and energy.

In her role at the Yankee Institute, Ms. Bates represents taxpayers at the state capital, works with law makers, testifies at hearings and provides guidance to her constituents and colleagues.  Previously, Bates was a journalist for over a decade, working for news organizations including the Associated Press, Good Morning America Weekend and the New Hampshire Union Leader.  She has a graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brigham Young University.

Ms. Bates' remarks will include:

  • Gaining an understanding of the budget setting and legislative process in the Hartford legislature
  •  Understanding the current state of the budget and what is currently happening in Hartford
  • Understanding the current challenges including public sector compensation
  • Perspectives on the attractiveness of doing business in CT
