A Message From the FEI Detroit Chapter President

Dear Members and Strategic Partners,

Welcome to our 2020-21 program year. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to what will, without a doubt, be a unique year. Our world has changed permanently. So has our chapter.
The novel virus and the pandemic have reoriented our relationships with our institutions, organizations, and with each other. It has been a time of significant challenge, but also one of unparalleled opportunity. It has forced us to be more resourceful and flexible. It has made us question really why we meet and how we do so. Change was imminent, and the pandemic accelerated it.

The recent anti-racist protests and calls to action, perhaps the most passionate and engaged in recent memory, have urged us to reflect on our circumstances and those of others, and to re-examine our values and priorities. Crucial conversations are taking place across our society, at corporations, schools, families, communities, and our organization has not been the exception. I am proud of where these conversations are leading us at FEI. I am honored to serve alongside outstanding leaders: our chapter’s officers and directors, our CEO Andrej Suskavcevic, and chapter leaders across the nation. Now more than ever, I am proud of FEI, our mission and our relentless emphasis on advancing ethical leadership. Yet this is just the beginning of this journey. Change was necessary, and these events have forced us to focus our efforts.

Exciting times are ahead of us. You will notice some changes in our programming, including the format of our events and their “rituals”. We do all of this just for you. We want you to enjoy what we do for you. We need your continued attendance to, and participation in, our events. We kindly ask for your support to our strategic partners, who have remained committed to our chapter by developing content-rich presentations, connecting with members and sharing relevant online resources. We are always striving to improve and your feedback is greatly appreciated.

We are excited about the launch of a new “hybrid” event format, starting this Fall, by which you will be able to choose whether to attend in person or join the event remotely, without compromising your event experience.

Our programming for 2020-21 will consist of a mixture of in-person, remote and hybrid events and it has been structured to reflect our commitment to public health while continuing to provide world-class offerings to our members and strategic partners. As we prepare for alternate realities, we do so keeping your safety our top priority, along with our responsibility as leaders to do everything we can to limit the spread of the illness in our community.

I am thankful for your trust and support. I am honored and looking forward to serving our chapter as your president for another year.

Kindest regards,
Avec O’Brien
President
