Financial and Operational Performance: An Inside Look into the University of Memphis' Athletic Department

Join fellow FEI Memphis members and partners as we welcome Laird Veatch, Director of Athletics at the University of Memphis. A 25-year veteran in intercollegiate athletics -- and a former Kansas State football player -- Veatch was deemed to have the ideal background for the Memphis athletics program.

Topics to cover include:

  • Annual budget of the department, including sources of revenue and significant expenses;

  • Number of people in the department, sports programs, student athletes and organizational structure;

  • The department’s key objectives and how does he push these down into the department; and

  • How he and his staff report to University President, David Rudd, and his staff.

"Laird's a perfect fit for the University and our City," UofM President M. David Rudd said. "As a former student-athlete, he brings a unique perspective and a wealth of experience at some of the nation's leading athletic departments, along with a strong vision for the future, a keen understanding of a rapidly changing landscape, unparalleled integrity and energy, and a commitment to competing at the highest level."
