Orange County Dinner Meeting: May 2015!

What is the Ambassador Program?

We are looking for volunteers that want to help guests network and learn about FEI at the dinner meetings.   This program will help guests determine if a membership with FEI is a good fit. Katie, our administrator, will assist with this process. Below is an outline of how the process will work.

Dinner invite will now include buttons for PD Sessions and Ambassador for the night.
  • Katie will take those that signed up for “Ambassador for the Night” and assign a guest.
  • Katie will send you an email to let you know the name of the guest and any other information we have on them.
  • You will look for the guest at the dinner meeting and help them network, tell them about the past and future events, tell them value you have obtained from FEI, etc.
  • You will also follow up with a call to see if they have any other questions, want to talk to the membership committee, want to talk to a board member, etc.

PD Session: Global Tax and Accounting Issues Facing the Digital Economy Presented by Randy Free – Tax Partner – Grant Thornton LLP

Randy will discuss how multinational technology companies can avoid potential tax issues stemming from evolving tax regulations. His presentation will focus on the digital economy, specifically on companies that are using innovative digital products and new means of delivering services that often create uncertainties in relation to the proper characterization of payments and the resulting taxation. These companies rely heavily on intangibles to create value and produce income, which raises questions on the specific location of value creation and taxation.

Adding to the complexity, is a growing demand for transparency by taxing authorities as evidenced by The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and the SEC’s increased focus on financial statement disclosure of unremitted earnings. Randy will address the risks for digital companies associated with a shifting tax landscape and outline actions that financial executives can take to navigate this new frontier

Please join us for our academic night!

Discovering a way to harness the "creativity" of organizations is a continual challenge. St. Joseph Health System has developed an Innovation Institute that stimulates new thinking and takes ideas from brainstorming to market. Deborah Proctor, CEO, will not only discuss the approach they have taken but will also share an example of an innovative approach to employee wellness and engagement.

Speaker: Deborah A. Proctor- President & CEO, St Joseph Healthcare

Deborah Proctor is the president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph Health, based in Irvine, California. She leads one of the nation’s top Catholic health systems, which serves communities throughout California, Texas and New Mexico. St. Joseph Health is a $6 billion not-for-profit health system consisting of 16 hospitals, physician organizations, home health agencies, hospice care, outpatient services, skilled nursing facilities and community outreach services. St. Joseph Health also includes an affiliation with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in its Southern California region.

As the president and CEO, Proctor is ushering in a new direction to transform St. Joseph Health into a unified health delivery system. Her efforts are leading the health system clinicians, leadership and staff on a journey that ensures the regions we serve are among the Healthiest Communities; we continue to strive toward delivering Perfect Care to all of our patients; and that every interaction with patients, families and one another is a Sacred Encounter.

Proctor has dedicated her career to improving the health and wellness of the communities where she has lived and worked. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Women in Healthcare; Beckers Hospital Review’s Top Women Hospital and Health Care Leaders to Know; Women in Health Administration’s Woman of the Year and the Orange County Business Journal’s Women in Business Award recipient. In addition, Proctor served as the Chair of the Catholic Health Association.

Her career in health care not only includes direct patient care, but also health care education and administration. After working as a critical care nurse and an associate professor, Proctor served in various leadership positions at St. Joseph Health in California, and at Voluntary Hospitals of America in Dallas, Texas. She worked in health care consulting with the Hay Group and before returning to St. Joseph Health in 2004 as President and CEO, Proctor was the Chief Administrative Officer of Ascension Health, one of the nation’s largest health systems.

Proctor was part of a team of authors collaborating on a Manual for Hospital Ethics Committees, published by the American Hospital Association. She has also authored several health care articles. In 1973, she received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles and in 1976 she received her master’s degree in nursing from California State University, Los Angeles.
