Amidst the unprecedented changes we are experiencing in today’s climate, taxpayers are having to simultaneously accommodate an ever-changing sales and use tax landscape. A landscape which may be met with aggressive state tax enforcement as state budgets suffer. Taxpayers must be prepared to meet the demands of an audit and comply with laws surrounding complex transactions. This course will highlight complex areas of sales and use taxes, such as nexus, audits, and mergers and acquisitions. Attendees will learn about how to:
  • Obtain a technical understanding of nexus laws, including economic nexus, and the impact it will have on an organization.
  • Understand taxpayer remedies and the benefits of Voluntary Disclosure Agreements and Tax Amnesty Programs.
  • Obtain a general overview of the audit process and gain an intermediate understanding of the audit management.
  • Understand how sales and use taxes impact mergers and acquisitions, along with the importance of the due diligence process.
  • Obtain key state and local tax updates and developments.
