Tell us a little bit about your career, educational/professional background and how you got to where you are today.

I majored in accounting at Auburn University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1993. I began my career as an assistant controller for a $200M computer distribution company. In 1995, I left that company and began my career in public accounting. I have worked for a few regional and local firms over the years and joined RSM in 2007.

My practice has always focused on middle market companies aligned with audit services.  Through my experience working with consumer and industrial product and service businesses, I’ve developed a specialized understanding of the industry. Many of my clients’ organizations are private equity owned which has led me to assist in numerous mergers and acquisitions, as well as helping account for complex equity structures and instruments.  I thoroughly enjoy helping my clients solve their business challenges and find opportunities to introduce them to others who may have mutual growth interests or strategies.

I moved to Tampa in 2016 from the RSM Orlando office. Since relocating, I have served as the audit practice leader for Tampa.

What is one piece of information you wish someone had told you when you first started your career?

Public accounting is much more than just crunching numbers and knowing your craft. You must possess a strong ability to interact with people of all levels and from different backgrounds.

What do you love most about working in the finance profession?

Helping our clients achieve their goals. Whether that is growth, long-term security, generational transition and succession planning, or successfully executing their exit strategy, I love helping them find personal success.

Why does your company sponsor FEI Tampa Bay Chapter?

RSM is strongly committed to Tampa Bay. After all, we want to live and work in a thriving community. FEI offers us an opportunity to develop new relationships and enhance our ever-growing network.

What are some activities you participate in to advance the profession or your career?

10Acious, ACG, and FEI are some of the organizations where I spend time networking. I also enjoy speaking at educational conferences and events. RSM has an outstanding internal learning and professional development program. I’ve participated in several growth and strategy-oriented events and activities over the course of my tenure. I also find that mentoring younger colleagues has been a big part of my professional development. Building a strong team has allowed me to progress in my career.
