A Message From Our President - March 2025

It’s hard to believe we are nearing the end of our 2024-2025 Chapter Year. We’ve had an incredible line up of events this year, and we have several more on the calendar. I’m particularly excited to welcome you to WEDU on April 17 for a local company event. I currently serve as the CFO for WEDU and am looking forward to personally welcoming you to our office and studio in Tampa.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the organization, WEDU is West Central Florida’s community-owned PBS station. For nearly 70 years, WEDU has enriched lives through impactful programming and outreach events that educate, inform, and inspire a lifetime of learning and discovery.

Programs like Mr. Rodgers’ Neighborhood likely come to mind when you think of PBS. Our generation was lucky to have a voice like Fred Rodgers guiding us and showing us how to treat our neighbors. It was Fred Rodgers who said, “All we’re ever asked to do in this life is to treat our neighbor—especially our neighbor who is in need—exactly as we would hope to be treated ourselves.”

Today, this voice lives on through programs like Daniel Tiger – a spin-off of Mister Rodger’s Neighborhood – airing on PBS stations across the nation. Daniel Tiger focuses on social-emotional learning and practical life skills for young children. These programs are the backbone of PBS Kids, and just one of many things that make WEDU and PBS great.

I hope that you’ll join us for this event in April. Attendees will have a special opportunity to go behind the scenes and tour WEDU’s facility and meet the dedicated team that brings award-winning content to audiences online, via streaming, and across six broadcast channels while actively engaging the community through educational outreach and events.
Registration is open, so please reserve your spot today!

Until then, you can find several resources on the FEI website – including webinars and other professional development tools, and a discussion board where our peers share their most pressing challenges.

It’s an honor to be your Chapter President. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!

Sincerely,

Shirley Risen
