Tell us a little bit about your career, educational/professional background and how you got to where you are today.

I’ve been in the software business my entire career, starting with selling payroll and tax filing services for ADP. I’ve also sold patient billing software to the healthcare industry and point-of-sale solutions to the hospitality industry. For the last 12 years, I’ve sold Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions from Microsoft and Sage.

My education process was twofold. I attended UCF for six years, where I got a Bachelor’s degree in marketing with double-minors in math and computer science, and an MBA. The other part of my education was working 90 hours a week every summer at a straight commission sales job. That taught me a lot about hard work and perseverance, and allowed me pay my own way through college.

What do you love most about working with finance professionals?

No two businesses are the same, so it never gets boring.  And I’ll forget what my UCF accounting professor once told me: “Remember, there are people behind those numbers.”

What is one piece of information you wish someone had told you when you first started your career?

Get a good mentor. There’s no point in learning everything the hard way.

What are some activities you participate in to advance the profession or your career?

I probably get invited to a dozen webinars every day. I pick the ones most relevant to my career and make the time to attend and listen. I also take my Christian faith very seriously, and believe that to the extent that I grow in my spiritual walk that will make me a better person with which to do business.

What is your best networking tip?

Zig Ziglar said “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”  If you focus on giving other people leads or doing them some kind of favor then it’s only a matter of time before something good happens in return.

What are some of your personal hobbies outside of work?

I own several guitars and have played on numerous church worship teams. I also enjoy golf, although I’ve never broken 90. I work out six days a week, but to me that’s not a hobby, it’s just a part of my daily heath regimen.
