Professor Elam completed his three degrees BBA MBA PhD all at the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches audit and the TSBPA required ethics class at Texas A & M University San Antonio. He has been a popular presenter for Continuing Education addressing San Antonio TXCPA /society, SA Institute Management Accountants, and SA Institute of Internal Auditors on multiple occasions. He was named the TXCPA Outstanding Accounting Educator for Small Texas Universities in 2021. He was cited for Distinguished Continuing Education Service by SA CPA 2020-2021. His research interest regards how social mood affects social action especially financial fraud and regulation. He has presented with researchers at the Socionomics Institute here and abroad.
