Charles Thomas, Jr.

After 26 years at Southwest Airlines, Chuck Thomas was recruited by the world’s oldest and most prestigious hospitality school, Ècole hôtelière de Lausanne, to lead its Executive MBA Program and serve as Department of Accounting Chair.

While in Switzerland, he taught accounting, finance, and project management in the Executive MBA and Bachelor of Science programs.

Along with current Southwest Airlines chairman Gary Kelly, Dr. Thomas co-developed Southwest’s planning, budgeting and control processes, and later led an internal consulting and R&D team at Southwest (for 15+ years).

While working fulltime at Southwest Airlines, Dr. Thomas taught managerial accounting in Baylor University’s Executive MBA Program (Hankamer School of Business). He has also taught Masters’ level managerial accounting and corporate finance courses for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Dr. Thomas co-authored the Institute of Management Accountants’ Conceptual Framework for Managerial Costing and a piece in Advances in Management Accounting.

Since returning from the Swiss Romande, Dr. Thomas has published research articles in Cost Management , the Journal of Corporate Accounting & Finance, and the Journal of Real Estate Literature.

A member of the American Accounting Association, AICPA, TSCPA, Institute of Management Accountants and the Texas Wesleyan University Business Advisory Council, Dr. Thomas has received numerous awards, including the Beta Alpha Psi Gamma Rho Chapter Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Baylor University Executive MBA Outstanding Professor Award.
