Daniel Altchek

Dan Altchek advises private and public sector employers on labor relations issues and matters involving compliance with state and federal employment law.

With nearly 20 years of experience as a labor and employment attorney, Dan's advice is guided by his understanding that employers want to maintain the value of their workforce. In unionized businesses, he represents employers in grievance arbitrations, collective bargaining, contract administration and proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board. He also provides proactive advice to help employers who are facing organizational changes in their labor force understand the effects on their business, whether the workplace is unionized or non-unionized.

When claims of discrimination and disputes involving contracts, benefits and wage and hour issues arise, Dan provides representation in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. He also handles tort claims. To help clients minimize the risk of litigation, Dan helps employers assess their compliance with fair employment statutes and wage and hour laws. He also provides advice on issues involving compensation and benefits, hiring, discipline and termination of employment.

Dan is a senior lecturer at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy & Management, where he teaches Human Resources Management in the Executive MPH/MHA Program.
